Margaret HANEY

Dr. Margaret (Meg) Haney is a Professor of Neurobiology (in Psychiatry) at the Columbia University Medical Center, where she is the Director of the Marijuana Research Laboratory and Co-Director of the Substance Use Research Center. Her research focuses on assessing novel approaches to treating Cannabis Use Disorder. Her laboratory, one of the first to empirically demonstrate a time-dependent, pharmacologically-specific cannabis withdrawal syndrome in humans, assesses the effects of potential treatment medications on cannabis intoxication, withdrawal (e.g., irritability, disrupted sleep, decreased food intake) and relapse (i.e., cannabis self-administration after a period of abstinence). 

Dr. Haney’s research has been continuously supported by the National Institute of Health (NIH) since 1999. She has authored more than 125 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 11 book chapters, acts as an Associate Editor for Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research, is an Advisory Editor for Psychopharmacology, is a longstanding participant in NIH review groups, and is a member of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology and the College on Problems of Drug Dependence, where she currently serves on the Board of Directors.
